It's not a jeep Rob. It's an M-422 Mighty Mite. Produced Jan. 1960 to Jan. 1963. Approximately 4000 units produced for the U.S. Marine Corps, it was powered by an air cooled, aluminum V4 engine.

Oh, and the helicopter behind it should be a Marine Corps Sikorsky HR2S-1

For our Army fans...or after the 1962 DoD redesignation ..a CH-37C.
Fifty-five were procured starting in 1956 and ended in 1959.
While Army examples served inVietnam, I don't believe any USMC examples made it over there.

As far as the Mighty Mite...think of it as an equivilent to the Austin Champ 4x4...and unsuccessful competitor to the Land Rover.

The Sikorsky HJS, only two prototypes built in 1948.
Wright R-975 engine....it looks like a larger HO3S (S-51/Army H-5, Westland Dragonfly).


The other shot is a twin engine pilotless bomber .... I believe it has something to do with the people who designed the Ercoupe.

The M-422 was used exclusively by the Marine Corps. If you hear someone humming the Marine hymn you may want to run for cover Rob. They are probably looking for you.

Number two: Interstate TDR attack drone. It was the first TV-guided smart bomb; you can see the transmitter in the nose that sent a picture to the TBM guide plane. I saw a documentary on drones that had some kinescope footage of the view from the camera!
