Warbirds: The Movie!

Thu Apr 10, 2008 2:44 pm

Hang on, guys -- this isn't what you would think (or hope).

No, in fact, it looks like we're to be treated to yet another cinematic masterpiece along the lines of "Reign of the Gargoyles" which, some of you may remember, aired on the Sci Fi Channel last year.

Apparently, this time the action shifts to the PTO where "an all-female WW2 bomber crew battles flying lizards over the Pacific" because (as the ad says) "before the Allies could drop the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, they had to get it past the Japanese fleet... and its island of deadly pterodactyls."

I didn't know a thing about this until I stumbled onto the listing just now. The descriptions don't exactly help much except that I think we can expect some sort of cross between "Jurassic Park," "Pearl Harbor" and "Chained Heat" (on a fraction of the budget).

The ad shows the guy from "Charmed" running from a horde of Zeroes and prehistoric monsters. I would guess that the planes as well as the dinosaurs will all be digitally rendered. IMDb (the Internet Movie Database) doesn't provide any more clues other than that the picture was shot in Louisiana (no doubt to take advantage of the massive tax breaks).

The Sci Fi Channel Original Movie, "Warbirds" will air Saturday April 19th at 8/9C.

Dude.....you watch Charmed?

What O.P. Said.....I'd rather sit back and watch Black Sheep

Wow.. rough crowd. 5 paragraphs about a movie ripe for hilarity and you guys bust on me because I looked up the credits of the guy on the poster? :ouch:

(OK, I admit he did look vaguely familiar as the shape standing next to Alyssa Milano's sweater when I surf across TNT)

I actually do have season 1, disc 2 of "Black Sheep" from Netflix at home. :f4u: But, it looks as if they haven't transferred the complete run of the show -- is that right?

I'm looking forward to it :-)

So sue me, I love B movies. Where's Crow and Tom Servo when you need them?

Serious Question

Nah, I'm sure the tax breaks were secondary. The real benefit is they can cut costs by having the local mosquitos pose as pterodactyls..... :)

I set up the Tivo, but I am not expecting much this time, after the Gargoyle one.

Mystery Science Theater forever! My wife put that show right up there with The Three Stooges. Maybe it's a guy thing, chicks just don't get it.

Loved the droopy wing B-29, remines me of a plastic model I built when I was a kid. Also how did the american truck named ghost get on a Japanese military island? Good thing we had spare atom bombs. Comic books on film. Glad I taped it and fast forward thru most of it.

I switched over to the weather channel, it was more interesting.

Geez I figured out (before my eyes rolled into the back of my head)
they were mutated flying pygmies:shock:
The dogfight was pretty good though-right :?:

I.."over"...thought..."over"...the..."over"...thing..."over"...was..."over"...pretty..."over"...
exciting..."over"...and..."over"...realistic..."over". :vom:

It was particularly exciting to have them find all the Pratt & Whitney engine parts so they could fix the B-29

Watching the landing made me cringe a bit. A straight drop from about 200 ft.
onto the runway with no gear damage. "We build them good in Omaha, ja Heinie?"

And the topper...transporting an ARMED atomic bomb

I also loved the Colonel's nickel plated "Pimp gun" .45 and the single shot Carbines they used. They were cycling the bolt after every shot...ARRGH.
