Visited CWH today

I had to provide some entertainment for our niece today.
I decided the best possible activity for a five year old girl was to head up to Mount Hope and the Canadian Warplane Heritage...
Always worked for me when I was a kid!
The Lysander was standing there all massive and imposing. You can't say that the scheme isn't striking!
This is my second favorite view of the Lanc.
Unbuttoned with all the proof of it's virility.
Compared to the way it looked at Goderich for all those years and then watching it slowly come back to life...
It is great to see the mechanical heart(s) that make it a breathing beast
Although I guess Gary will not like the thought of four Merlins to baby.
And as an added bonus.
Just as we entered the hangar....
A CWH member ran past and told me that this was taxiing in. One of my all time favorite nonlethal aircraft.
And I think the smile speaks to the universal happiness that warbird type aircraft bestow.
She had a great time wandering around ..and asking a million questions.
There were a couple classes of high school kids having a field trip. So I guess lots of smiles there too!

Awesome pictures, thanks! Did you get any info regarding when the Lysander might make it's first flight?
Also, does that Hurricane belong to the CWH or someone else? Is it real?

Other than the landing gear, the rest of the original plane was lost in a fire if I recall correctly. The plane is a replica.

It is quite crammed in it's restoration bay...but it seems to be slowily becoming a whole

Tail wheel aircraft issue
The pilot sees better forward when on the ground. because of that shape.
Makes for tricky construction of canopy frames however

What was the story on the Tin Goose's visit to the Great White North? Is she still owned by Greg Herrick?
I'm a huge Ford Tri-Motor fan..that plane was rebuilt in Maurice Hovious' shop about 45 minutes up the road from me in Vicksburg, Michigan. He's also got two or three others in various stages of progress, including Kermit Weeks' 4-AT N7584..the aircraft in which I got my very first airplane ride back in 1976.

They said she was here to film a movie about Emilia Earhart, with Richard Gere of all people!

The film is "Amelia" starring Hillary Swank I believe some of the flying scenes are being shot this month at Dunnville Ontario. Vintage Wings Canada were sending down Johnny Livingston's 1929 WACO Tapperwing, the Beach Staggerwing, and possibly the Fox Moth.
Should be some interesting vintage birds flying down that way this month.

As to the Lysander. I did not hear anything about flight plans. I was just happy to see it looking like what it is, it was a long time in getting together.
The Hurricane is a static replica that takes the place of the sadly lamented flyer that perished in the notorious fire.
It looks good from a distance.
but close up you can see that it is molded. And the metal parts are few.
Here is the real article the summer before she was lost.

WHOA! That Ford just flew right over my house at less than 1000 ft AGL (lined up perfectly on my driveway!) Probably gonna make a stop in Kalamazoo on his way back to Minnesota.

The Tri-Motor is owned by Greg Herrick of Blaine Min.
I hired it for the movie along with Jimmy Leeward as the pilot.
It was at CWH doing some evening and night time flying sequences.
Dunnville is the next big shot with 12 a/c involved.
Can't really get into too many details as we want everyone to be somewhat suprised etc.
but I will answer waht questions I can.

This is a joke attributed to Charles Lindbergh(who lived for pratical jokes ,apparently). When asked what he thought of AE he is reported to have said " I heard she made a good landing...once".
It is my understanding that she crashed every airplane she owned at least once!
Helped (??) my father do some work on a Ford (Kermit's?)at Erve Perliches' place, in Morgan Hill, CA. That had to be about 1965-66. He was doing an annual getting her ready for Watsonville. Later, at the fly in, I and a buddy got a ride for free because the lady taking the tickets was an old family friend! My recollection it was akin to placing a garbage can over one's head and continually banging it with a multitude of hammers!
