Cherry Point N.C. warbirds

Thu Jun 12, 2008 4:01 pm

I was recently in Cherry Point, and they had 2 harriers as gate gaurds, as well as a welcome center that has an A-6, A-4, F-4, CH-46, and an F9F. But I heard that there was an F4U and a PBY by one of the gates. Any one know?

The place with the planes displayed outside is the Havelock Tourist Center. I have it in the Locator here...

...BTW, they also have a P-12 inside!

About 1/2 between the tourist center and Cherry Point is the a police station with a Harrier displayed...

Cherry point does have a Harrier gate guard. It is "new" since I were there in 2005. Apparently there are a few small bone yards around the base. I have seen reports of the F4U and PBY but I suspect they are very old reports and these airframes may have been at one of these bone yards, but are long gone now. Here are the details...
