What purpose do the pipes server, originally I thought they were supports. Now I'm leaning towards dehumidifiers. Anybody know for sure. Several NASM aircraft stored there have it.

Can't say for sure, but de-humidifiers seems a reasonable assumption. That way they only rot from the outside in, instead of both inside and out.

A few years ago I went to a week long seminar held at Garber. Was an amazing couple of days to learn how they restore and preserve the aircraft at the "Nations Hangar." Anyway... we did a field trip to Dulles and they showed us the Space Shuttle, Blackbird and Connie that were stored there (the storage hangar had alot more in it). They described that they had those ducts running into the Connie and also a combat veteran C130 to circulate the air. I assumed they might dehumidify as well but not for certain.

Blue Skies,
