C-47A 43-15137 Update June 6th 2008 - GARY

Mon Jun 16, 2008 7:13 pm

Well, I haven't done much with the C-47A 43-15137 "Chalk 40" besides research. This is how I spent my June 6th 2008....I traveled the graves of 2 of the 18 troopers that jumped from her into Normandy on June 6th 1944. Both were killed in Normandy and are buried in the same cemetery on Long Island NY.
Trooper #1 was James F. Clark, the Chalk leader, killed June 13th 1944. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions at Normandy:

Trooper #11 was John M. Jefferson, killed June 7th 1944:

I haven't updated my website with the pictures yet....but, I figured I'd share them here on the WIX.

Thanks for the update, Van. Amazing how each person there was a hero in his own way.

Like Jack said...humbling.
