Spiegelberg with the AVG?

Tue Jul 22, 2008 9:50 am

Looking for any evidence of a gentleman by the name of Spiegelberg who served with the AVG or possibly with the 14th after the disbandment of the AVG. First name possibly Arvin or Arlin or similar. I was told he was a pilot with the AVG but I can find no record of him at all, much less as a pilot. Any help much appreciated.

Bob Scott, Noel Bacon, and Anna Chennault were charter members of the
International Fighter Pilots Fellowship so I have a complete roster of all the AVG members.

The gentlemen you mention does not show as either officer or enlisted on the AVG roster. I can't speak for the 14th, nor the 23'rd fighter group that was commanded by Scott after the Tigers were disbanded.
Hope this is helpful.

Thanks a bunch Dudley, that is helpful, although a bit of a dissapointment. Somebody is, at best, stretching the truth. I will continue to look for evidence of of this gentleman in the post AVG USAAC.

No sweat. I hope it turns out for you.

I guess I should advise you also that the AVG has had a great deal of trouble with this type of thing for many years. One ex-AVG pilot friend of mine, Erik Shilling, even while my wife and I were visiting with him in California, was in the process of chasing down someone "lecturing" at a local Chamber of Commerce out there saying he was an AVG pilot...complete with medals that hadn't been issued until long after the Tiger disbandment.
