Probably the Canadian Museum of Flight and Transportation in Langley, BC. They were reported to have large chunks of BW862 a few years ago.

BW853 is probably fairly original, at least for a Canadian Hurricane. It was originally classified as Category B (repairable by contractor or Repair Depot), stored at a Repair Depot, and then sold whole. There are some other "Canadian" Hurricanes on various civil registers today that were Category A (beyond economical repair) and scrapped on site. Makes me wonder what was left, besides a nameplate, when they were "rebuilt" 40 or 50 years later.

The airplane for sale, from what I can tell is not the one owned by the Canadian Museum of Flight. It's our intention to eventually restore our example when we have time, space, and money. It may be a while, but we'll do it.

I found this website that has photos of the airplane in question. It looks far more complete than the CMF's example, and it looks like it is located in England.

As a side note, it seems that there are some errors in the Hurricane registry as well as other Hurricane survivor lists online. For a while there were two Hurricane hulks at the Canadian Museum of Flight. One belonged to the Zalesky family while the other belonged to the CMF. In the mid-1990's when the Zalesky family cut ties with the CMF they took their Hurricane with them. The CMF still has its example. I can't remember the codes for the two airplanes, but I can find that out eventually.

As a side note, what level of difficulty would it be to restore a Hurricane from just a centre section into a full static display? I got my dreamin' hat on.

I hope that clarifies things a little.

Cheers,

David McIntosh

Ok,

so I've got it figured out.

1.) Hawker Sea Hurricane Mk XII BW862: owned by Zalesky family located Surrey, BC, Canada (NOT FOR SALE)

2.) Hawker Sea Hurricane Mk XII BW853: owned by ADJ Engineering, located Milden, Suffolk, UK (FOR SALE)

3.) Hawker Hurricane Mk II RCAF5666: owned by Canadian Museum of Flight located Langley, BC, Canada (NOT FOR SALE)

As it turns out RCAF 5666 was on a flight with another Hurricane and got mixed up in a snow storm over Maine and both were forced to belly land in a farmer's field. Though not seriously damaged the airframe was no longer necessary and was scrapped. The remains of 5666 were recovered from a Quebec scrap yard by an aircraft collector and then the CMF aquired the aircraft.

I am thinking about getting out to the CMF's storage site to take pictures of it. I do know it's in sad shape. At least I think it's stored inside now.

'til next time....

Cheers,

David

"2.) Hawker Sea Hurricane Mk XII BW853: owned by ADJ Engineering, located Milden, Suffolk, UK (FOR SALE) "

While I believe the photos of it were taken at ADJ Engineering, I don't think we can say that it is currently owned by them (they may have done the initial restoration - and probably would be able to negotiate to finish it if you asked!) - the article posted does not imply they own it.

Paul is correct. BW853 is indeed NOT currently owned by ADJ Engineering.

My mistake, I was just going off of what the warbird registry said.

Thank you for correcting.
