I spent one day just in the WWI and WWII rooms (although I did rush down to the Cold War building in the last 1/2 hour the museum was open, just to see the B-36).

Definitely allow some time to peruse the gift shop......they have some nice stuff.

My 2 cents say 3 days minimum ... If planning in advance, why not include a Friday and call in to make a reservation to go on the Friday afternoon tour to the Restoration and see both the Belle and the Swoose.

Maybe I'm just getting to the point where I don't need to read every placard on every airplane, but I have been able to see it all in one dedicated day.

That is, get there at opening, take a break for lunch, then go back until closing.

Maybe a small portion of a second day to "clean up" anything you missed at the end of the first day, or if you miss one of the trips out to the experimental hangar.

Of course, earmark some time for mustangdriver to take you out to the restoration hangar.

Right now, that can be a tour in itself. THere is an A-25, B-17D, B-17F, SU-27, F-86, YF-23, Mig 25, C-99, and some other really cool stuff in restoration. In storage there is a C-39, F-15, HE-111, and others. I never really get to go to the storage area.

I would definitely plan on two days, maybe three. Try to go on a Friday and get the "Behind the Scenes" Tour, and be sure to try and get on the Presidential and Experimental Aircraft hangars as well. The XB-70 and X-15 are two things you won't want to miss.

Randy...Sounds like you and I are pretty much in agreement about not reading every plaque. I just like to see them up close and hopefully be able to identify the ones Mrs. Mudge hasn't learned yet. I still have to remind her,
"4 engines, single tail...B-17.
4 engines, twin tail...B-24.
2 engines, twin tail...B-25."

Sounds like a plan to me. I can re-arrange some driving times so as to get to WP around 1100 on a Friday.

You may have to book the Friday restoration hangar tour some weeks in advance to get a spot. I hear if you get there right at opening there may be some cancellations though.

Two or three days is enough??? Last time I was there, I spent more than an hour just oogling the B-36 Then there is the B-58...and the F-106...and walking under the B-52...and...and...

Of the dozen or so times I have been there, I have found something new to observe or read or just let the mind wander I couldn't imagine what it must be like to work or be a volunteer there...I could never get anything done with all of the eye candy! Superb collection that needs to be seen by everyone at least once in a lifetime.

Now...if they could just put those 100watt bulbs in that I left out in the parking lot last time for better picture taking JUST KIDDING CHRIS...
