Rare and strange warbirds-US

Tue Sep 02, 2008 8:38 pm

This is the link that was posted on the Lone Star email forum to which I responded with the contra rotating XP-72 and Corsair.
Enjoy it or get creeped out, whatever spins your prop. Check out some of the other nations' designs too. The four engine Mossie grabbed me.

Great link! Thanks for posting!

It's actually a very comprehensive website. I'm planning on spending the next several hours... There are some beautiful airplanes, and some very frightening things.

Here's the main page for the website:

Cool sites! Much Grassy^$$!! I know the ARUP lead directly to the V-173 and the XF5U, it's a shame that the XF5 never flew, but it did demonstrate just how tough METALITE construction was when the Navy had a wrecking ball dropped on the airframe and it bounced off-

Find a Supermarine Attacker Naval Jet, in Pakistan or wherever, to donate the wings and you are more than 50% toward a viable creation of a Seafang. An engine and prop from an Avro Shackleton is a proven conversion. The remainder is well within the scope of the UK Spitfire 'industry'.

Dreams. :)

xp75......... the biggest turkey of them all, a peverbial frankenstein made from a mish mash of warbird parts, piss poor performance, & the ultimate government boondoggle!!
