The Japanese launched several thousand of these balloon bombs. One killed a ministers wife and a couple of kids in Oregon, in I believe 1944. A few started small forest fires (the initial aim of the bombs was to burn down the Western U.S. forests).
HOWEVER!!! there could still be hundreds of these 63 year old things laying out in the boonies clear into the Eastern Midwest, be aware that they are still out there and watch your step out in the woods!!
