Pics from NMUSAF July 1969

Fri Sep 19, 2008 7:54 pm

Here are some pics that my Dad shot in July, 1969, when we visited the NMUSAF. They are scans of slides. Sorry for the poor quality. There are some very interesting aircraft in these shots!

DaveM2: Sorry, those are the only shots I have. My Dad may have more, but they're buried somewhere in his closet full of slides down in Florida.

Steve: I have no idea what month, other than "summer time".

Cheers!

n5151TS, the fabric covered and quite a few other all metal aircraft were inside a building when I was there in '71. By the mid seventies a new facility was built on the other side of the field with buildings large enough to house the B-36 and others, I don't think any significant aircraft displays are outside but could be wrong since I haven't been there since my original visit.

I always enjoy seeing pics with Walter Soplata's YB-36 in them. It is certainly a shame the entire airplane didn't survive.

Neat pics! Thanks for posting.

Those pics taken in 1969 were way before the museum as it stands today. Many are now inside. In fact, you can walk up a ramp into the Globemaster "Old Shakey"

Really man, did you even bother to look to see these pics were from 1969? The Ryan is in restoration right now, and will be on display soon. There are only a handful of aircraft left outside at the museum now.
