Vintage Warbird Crashes in Sandy Valley

Updated: Oct 5, 2008 05:24 PM CDT

A World War II vintage aircraft crashed in Sandy Valley Sunday morning, killing the pilot.

According to the FAA the plane, a highly modified and very rare TF-51D--a two seat variant of the storied P-51 Mustang--went down near the intersection of Beech and Kingston Streets just before ten o'clock.

The pilot of the craft was killed in the crash--his name has yet to be released. The FAA identifies the plane as an experimental aircraft called a Bonde TF-51D.

It is not known if there were any other injuries in the crash. Units from San Bernardino County, California responded to the scene as well as those from Clark County Fire and Metro from Las Vegas

Are you sure that's the same plane? I think we might be talking about two different aircraft. The last names are spelled differently as well.

Zack, are you sure? Bond is not Bonde, Robert is not Daryl, N267B is not N327DB. This is something you really would not want to be wrong about, no?

Not that airplane.

probably one of those 2/3 scale P-51 replicas with a 350 in the nose.

Also, different spelling of the last name.

this is how rumors start...

Daryl BOND owns lady jo (NL327DB) and is a friend. THe other plane is a new build NOT P51 experimental plane according to the FAA registration.

sad

Real or replica, whoever it was it is sad. It's another pilot who liked airplanes, maybe enough to build one and he is lost.

Well put, Bill. I too am saddened by the loss of the pilot. Godspeed.
