This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I read a few months ago that in New Zealand they armed a P-40 with 6 .50 Cal. machine guns, each with a blank firing adapter, and fired the guns while airborne during a display.
That reminded me of a brief mention in a gun magazine years ago of a big gun show at which supposedly a Mustang made an actual firing pass on a ground target during a machine gun shoot. It was such a brief mention, with no photos, that I read the sentence several times.
Could that have been true? How many regulatory hoops must have been jumped through to do something like that? Or did the magazine get it wrong?

You're going to have to be more specific. I didn't see P-51 live fire videos. Only gun camera footage.

Never heard of that one.
I would be very, very surprised if this were true.

I don't think that is true. I've never heard of a Mustang here in the U.S. firing live bullets at anything since it's military days. If it was done, it was done in an illegal and unauthorized move, somewhere out in the middle of nowhere on private property away from the public. The closest thing I've heard was when Lewis Shaw's Mustang was being prepped at Breckenridge with fully functioning machine guns to fire in the air. This was supposedly being done with full FAA, and ATF authorization. Apparently the idea never came to fruition though.
Could that have been in a foreign country where it might be a lot easier to get away with? Also, could the article have referred to either gas-firing guns or blanks?

HHHmmm, the only 2 people I know "out West" who fit that description would be Howard Pardue and Connie Edwards. Pardue was known to fire his .50 cal MG on the ground, but I don't think he would be stupid enough to flagrantly violate the law like that.

If you want to get into rumors from the 70s and 80s then I have heard that there was a drug runner on the US side of the border with an armed Mustang and that there was another drug runner on the other side of the border with an armed F-86 Sabre!

Definately wasn't Howard nor Connie. Dunno just a rumor I've heard...

There used to be a Youtube clip of the crew that dug up Glacier Girl "test firing" the 20mm. Pretty crazy!! I just checked and the video has been removed!

We only shot .22's from a Ford Fairlane out west of San Antonio. Yes, we ate the rabbits we shot on Private land!
