Airworthy Texans

Sat Jan 22, 2005 4:09 pm

Could everyone do me a favor? If you see a Texan/SNJ/Harvard fly could you check the registry? If its not lested as airworthy the post a note here with serial # or N-Number so I can bring this section up to date. Currently I can find who owns an airframe currently but not what condition its in. This would help alot, thanks.

Hi Scott, I'll let you know the N number as soon as I get one for mine.

Thanks,

Chris

49-3401, which is N4995P is airworthy, AC Aero owns it. Flys in the Northern VA Area. Owners are members of National Capitol Squadron and it can be seen with our planes at many airshows, like here at Dover AFB in May 2004

Airworthy T-6

I sent Scott the data on my AT-6 C for the registry. It had never before occured to me to look for it there. I have been wondering about something for a long time, and seeing that all but one of the C-models were listed by USAAF serial no., I wanted to ask for info. My airplane came out of South Africa in 1996. It was SAAF 7684 and constructors number 88-13660. According to the ¨Harvard in Service with the SAAF¨by Rivers and Spring, 65 aircraft in the 7600 block, including mine, were acquired in 1952-3. Meaning, of course, that it had prior USAAF/USAF service. I have no idea what the AAF serial no. would have been or any details of service. I know some of you guys are historians and may have this detail or know how to get it. I would be interested in any data you might have. Over to you, and many thanks.

But Scott, I notice that none of the Norwegian T-6s are on the registry. Is this some kind of punishment? I strongly believe I have behaved nicely on this forum, and in any case you really shouldn't take it out on the poor warbird owners...
There are three T-6/Harvards wearing Norwegian registrations, although one (LN-AMY) might still be based at Duxford with the OFMC. They are all listed in the latest Directory, which I see you have used for the registry. The trio is:
LN-AMY 42-85068 Rolf Meum, Hagan, NORWAY
LN-TEX 14A-2268/KF568 Ingvild Marie Thoresen, Krokkleiva, NORWAY
LN-WNH 41-33854 Sameiet Warbird Aviation c/o Lars Gagnum, Billingstad, NORWAY

Heh, it was not meant as a personal slight to our Norwegian friends, there are still at least 100 (probably 3 times that) Texans not leisted in the registry yet. If you check the whats new post in the forum news section you can see that I am trying my hardest to process the texans :)

Hi Scott,

Below are a few Harvards in my area. Some are on the warbird registry but are missing photos so feel free to use my pics (I'm no AIRIC but the photos are good enough for reference). The photos are from a few years back but I don't think any of the aircraft haven changed their paint and last I heard, all aircraft less one (SNJ5) that is not on your registry are still flying. If I come across anymore, I'll let you know. HTH!

Three I couldn't find on the registry:

Thank you Scott. I am really impressed with the amount of detail, including dates. Especially appreciative to get the AAF serial number. One correction - the aircraft was not shipped to Huntington Indiana. I know that alot of them were, but this one went direct from South Africa to Oakland, CA, which is where the first flight took place in 2000, as you correctly stated.

SNJ

Here's another one for you Scott.
SNJ-5 Bu No 44014 N440JG X-N3642F was based in Salem for over 20 years and was owned by Bob Morrow and Jim Elkins. Jim's crew tore it down to bare bones in 1997 then rebuilt it sparing no expense. It was the best T-6 rebuilt I've ever seen. It was part of the trade for Jim's P-51D. It went to Joe Gunnels who registered it has N440JG in late 1999. It crashed fatally on Sept 3, 2000 in CO when the pilot lost control during acrobatics.
I got my first T-6 ride in this airplane. I'll forward a photo to you.
