Aircraft Accident Summaries/Aircraft Mishap Investigation Reports

The aircraft accident reports are a record of operational losses. The summary reports normally do not include reports on combat losses. Presently, the collection covers the period 1920 to December 1979. The records are filed by type of aircraft and date of the accident. The collection is only on microfilm. NOTE: Without the type of aircraft and date of the accident it is almost impossible to locate the report on the microfilm. Requestors must have the type of aircraft and date of the accident in order to obtain a copy of the report. Records for the post December 1979 period are held by the Naval Safety Center. Their address is Commander Naval Safety Center, Attn: Code 71, 375A Street, Norfolk,VA 23511-4399.

They cost $5 each. The one I requested took about four weeks to process.

I received a few Navy reports through Accident-Reports.com, and couldn't have been happier.

Mr. Robbins, who handled my reports (and I think handles all Navy reports for the site) was extremely helpful and did an excellent job. For my reports all I was able to provide was a vague type (PBM), area (Truk Lagoon), and general time period (Fall 1946). Mr. Robbins was able to find the reports I was looking for.

He didn't stop there either. when I began having doubts that I had the reports I needed, he looked into it again. He got back to me confirming that they were the only reports for that aircraft type in that area, ever.

He also assisted me when there were portions of the reports that were unreadable and explained some very important information contained in the report that I would have never understood.

The reports were a little more expensive than $5. The one I received were $15 each. However the assistance and support I received were priceless. I would highly recommend them, and without a doubt, will use them again next time.
