Any one read CY's article on wasting warbirds in this month's Flight Journal?

I did yesterday.

I was very concerned about his "shot gun" statement about spoiled rich guys buying P-51's and destrorying them. The piece would have more value and I would respect him more if he actually included some facts, statistics and incidents. It was a blanket shot, right at the end of the article.

He almost implies that two of the three P-51's that were painted as "Glammorus Glen III", were lost in accidents buy his statement that there is only one now.

I kind of agree with racing them at Reno, but the rest was CR_P.

I wasn't impressed. you have to be able to state your case and back it up.

I think e have two threads going on at the same time. I stated in the other one, is he wrong? We all just had a very similar thread on the WIX about this. I am not saying he right or wrong, but I do think that there is some truth to it. Anyone remember watching that Black P-51 video?

An accident doesn't make someone a bad pilot, ot their word anyless important. Otherwise there would be alot of pilot sout there tha you are going to count out.

I think that his statement goes beyond warbirds. There are alot of pilots that are flying airplanes the they have no business in. This has been going on for along time and not just in warbirds. Anyone ever hear a Bonanza referred to as the V tailed doctor killer? Same goes with the Cessna 337 or O-2. I don't know where right or wrong is on this, but is naive to say that this does not happen.

In my opinion a good pilot accepts a mistake when he makes it, learns from it and moves on.

He doesn't blame somebody else and start litigation.

That is exactly what CY did, but it sure sounds like he is quick to be critical of everyone else.

True, but that does not answer the question of is he wrong. Also Gabreski to him was similar to a co-worker. How you might talk about someone that does your job for another company is how he talks about some of the men that we call heroes. He didn't say that he was an evi l person he said "He was not impressed of his flying and he destroyed alot of aircraft. It is sad that some of the people and machines we love are gone, but ignoring that there can be a problem is wrong. When I volunteered for a flying museum I used to see guys all of the time that flew WWII aircraft that didn't belong there. But they had the money so off they went. Now of course that is not the majority of the group, but it does exist.

I know of several examples but I don't really want to go into that.

CY should not be so bitter, after all being the 2nd pilot to break the speed of sound is pretty good. And I don't think Welch was a very good battery salesman.

I think CY is probably a product of the tough times he grew up in. He has learned things the hard way, his way, and the lessons of grace and manners don't seem to have been part of it.

George Welch also created the grand canyon before Paul Bunyan did as well. Not to many people know that.

So far rather than argue if there is a problem, others would just rather slam Yeager. Interesting.
