Always appreciate the deep, strong color saturation of early KODACHROME in a medium format reflex camera- 8)

That is a great detail shot. Did the wire hold the rocket in place or was it meant to arm the rocket?

Under the Canon is that some type of cooling? And why was one more forward than the other?

???

If this is some kind of Corsair photo challange-just say the word and game on!
No downloading from other sites though  :P

My guess about the offset rocket has to do with the mounting structure (internally) and interference with the cannon?

The copper wire kept the pin 'safe' until the rocket left the rail, looks like # 1 has about 3/16th inch of free play before arming-about E above 'C'

We can NEVER get enough F4U stuff

what's the story on the last (kenlyco) photo showing the Corsairs on the deck of a carrier? Would that be the Panama canal? I've been through the Panama canal once when I was very young and in places it can get tight if I recall.

???

Mark,
That's the USS Bunker Hill going throught the canel east to west heading for Hawaii in early fall 1943. VF-17 Corsairs are in the photos. They would be offloaded and exchanged with VF-18 due to supply issues.
