with the island in the back ground.., looks like 'Tori Shima' a chain of volcanic islands just south of Tokyo..,
Hellcats also participated in ground attack raids on Japan.
What silver wing is that in the photo? Is that a P-51?

Probably C-47 or something along those lines.
Don't know if the Navy would trust the USAAC to guide them over water.

Judging from the walkway paint I'd guess that is an R5C-1 or C-46.

It is not a C-47. The C-47 had split flaps, and as a result, the flaps were not visible from the top side. I would guess a C-46.
