TBDs, 3 are know but...

Thu Feb 03, 2005 12:18 pm

I now have seem pictures of three airframes around the world. Why has not the Navy made a more on at lest one of these a/c?

Is the Navy's hands tied but the NHC also? It seems that this is a type that NEEDS to be displayed in FL.

Any ideas, Any imput from those who know?

Tim,
Don't even try and understand those guys. You'll just get a headache. They've had 3 opportunities to acquire the only remaining (and flying) Spartan NP-1 Navy primary trainer and have managed to insult and attempt to screw over the owner each time. They've been given a third and final chance which they don't deserve. We'll see.

I guess I've forgottten a few things sense I left the Nav several years ago.

chalk 1 up in our win column!! the u.s. navy just lost a fight with a guy that recovered a wrecked corsair some where in the southern u.s. they raked this guy over the coals over time. he held his ground & prevailed. their is hope in fighting the naval museum godzilla. tom

TIGHAR says 'Yes'

Thu Feb 03, 2005 10:23 pm

If you look on the TIGHAR site, you'll find that they RECOMMEND that the TBD's in Jaluit lagoon be recovered to prevent looting. They say "In TIGHAR's view, the most appropriate and only practical repository for the aircraft is the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida."
Too bad they only talk the talk, not walk the walk...

They can have the corroded hulks. It's good for real rebuilders that they waste all their time on dead ends.

colonel r, i'd say you let em have it with both shotgun barrels!! & much deserved. keep it up!! tighar is a bunch of elmer gantry's. to bad on the tbd, it must be like aluminum powder by now & once exposed to air, darn near vaporized. if raised maybe they ought to put it in a tank with some gold fish to preserve what's left that the sea salt hasn't eaten after all these years of squawking!! time is of the essence. best, tom

Well, keep in mind, they waste their own time on a dead end. That's a good thing.

Richard"Dick"Gillespie

Fri Feb 04, 2005 4:57 am

Ah yes,Mr.Dick Gillespie
I have mentioned this blowhard a couple of times here on wix.The name Dick is so appropriate. How this blowhard got himself and his band of bozo's legitimized in the eyes of the mainstream media is beyond me,It shows beyond the shadow of a doubt what the state of the media truely is today. We all should remember how he and his merry band went to the island of Nikamororo(?) in the south Pacific, stumbled around in the intense equitorial sun(something that you must experience to believe, very intense, believe me)found a couple of scraps of aircraft aluminum and the heal of an old womans shoe and then announced to the world that he had solved the mystery of Amelia Earhart's disappearance!I remember watching the T.V. special where he displayed his "evidence" and thinking to myself"that's it?that's all?he's full of sh-t!.This is just one example of his B.S. and dellusions of grandeur. He's nothing but a con man.no more,no less. Tim
