F86 H information request

Tue Jan 27, 2009 11:04 pm

I'm trying to help a fellow Sabre maintainer in the restoration of an F86H. He's in need of the stencil markings that would have been standard on the H model Sabre. Most everything I have is related to the F model. Does anyone have information on the H- model that might help us out?
Thank you,
David

The Delaware ANG has an F-86H on display at their base at New Castle County Airport near Wilmington. I've only seen it from a distance, and it's been a few years since I've seen it, but it might be worth a call to them to find out how accurate it's marked, and maybe get someone there to take some photos for you.

Cheers!

You might want to try a copy of Earl Berlin's book "NA F-86H Sabre Hog" (Air Force Legends Number 212). Lots of close up shots and drawings in there with stencil data. Also, Pima's "H" has tons of stenciling on it. Maybe someone who lives in Tucson could take shots of whatever your friend might need?

I can buzz up to Nebraska and photograph the H on display at McCook if it will be of help. It is in the camouflage scheme, the same paint as when it was retired there for display.

Hi Scott,
That would be most appreciated. I think any pictures will help them to accurately recreate the small markings they need.
Thank you,

David,

I should have checked my photos before opening my big mouth. The airplane at McCook appears to have been oversprayed at some point. There isn't a stencil anywhere on the airframe. Sorry.
