Replica Cockpits

Has any one ever built just a replica cockpit for display purposes, or using it for use in flight sim, or other purposes? Either from plans, or factory blue prints? Where can blue prints or plans be obtained from? Just curious.

walt soplata has an f-100 flight simulator cockpit. & another wixer has 1, but i can't remember the type. i think it was an f-84, vandalized of course due to crappy punks.

Was just talking to him via email a couple of weeks ago.He is flat out making bits for one of Britains Museums aircraft collection.He mentioned cloning and revolving door so must be busy.Yes he does marvellous work.. hence no recent updates but he is alive....

there are several noses rolling around on trailers over there. some are restorations some are unbelievable reproductions with incredible craftsmanship!

I'm converting a F-84F cockpit into a simpit. There are a few other people also using real cockpits for sims. There is quite a community that centers around nothing but simpit building. IMHO, its even larger community than the WIX community. You'll definitely find all the info you'd ever need at the Mycockpit website.

Also, NASM will sell you microfilm of all the manufacturer's technical drawings for aircraft they have on file. You could technically make a complete craft from them, but they have you sign a waver saying non-profit, non-flying projects only or they won't reproduce the microfilm for you. I have all the F-84F microfilm on order from them. Over 50 rolls of stuff. My intent is to take my fuselage section back to just out of the factory condition and then do all the computer interface for the aircraft simulation with MSFS or X-Plane. Eventually I'll use Fighter Ops, but that's down the road.

I looked at the guy building a spitfire, and was impressed. Under his links, he had one to spitfirerestoration.com or something, and they had a lot of tech drawings. I was thinking about how neat a hurricane would be, the have hurricanerestorations.com, which was nice. Thaks for all the info.

Chris Woodul who is the Director of the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas is extremely talented in this area. He has an F-111 cockpit/escape pod that he restored from a junked hulk. If you sat in it (I have) you wouldn't believe you're not in a real F-111. You can view it and his collection of restored ejection seats at the Frontier museum.

It's awesome and I'm not at all a museum guy.
