Lost B-17 search

Tue Feb 08, 2005 5:28 pm

Ok, I'll enter the search and recovery fray -

Does anyone out there have ANY info on the following airframes

B-17E  41-2624 and 41-2541

2624 crashed NW of Wendover.

This would put the plane off of the UTTR and if it was not involved in an aerial collision the salt flats out there are nice and soft. And verrrrrry sticky - anyone see that satalite that crashed in the flats a year ago?

Thanks,

Tom P.

oooo...Tom...Damp Salt Flat+alumium&steel..doesn't sound too good.
Hopefully it made to somewhere more terra firma. What is available as
to surviving crew and the year it went down?
Thanx..

Yes, I've seen first hand the odd reaction of the salt and metal - interesting to see wreckage looking like it could be lifted out in one piece only to discover that the buried half is no more!

May and April of 1942 respectively for crash dates. 2624 went down only about 12 miles from Wendover so it may have been scooped already but I haven't found anything.
