What's the airshow that had the most C-47s/DC-3s attend? Berlin Airfilft Show? Anybody?

What was the difference between a C-47 and C-49?

Verner,

The C-49s were civilian airliners "drafted" by the Army and served as personnel transports for the most part. This airplane has Wright 1820s rather than the Pratts on the C-47 and no oversize cargo door, just the standard airliner aft entry door.

Somewhere I've got an old "Wings" or "Airpower" issue that details all the various designations given to civilian Gooneys impressed into military service. There were about a half-dozen different designations (some applying to just a handful of aircraft) since each airline tended to order DC-3s built to their own specs.

I got to fly on the YAM's C-47 "Yankee Doodle Dandy" a few years ago..it was definately a blast! The museum offers "day trips" to members at a very reasonable rate. We flew from Willow Run down to Springfield, OH, and spent the afternoon at NMUSAF, then flew back. Total cost including museum membership was only about 150 bucks (though it may be a bit more now) and worth every penny.

We really miss the old girl. Always intended to give her some nose art. Looks great! I wonder what became of the Grim Reaper pic in the back? I've got 90+ hours right seat in her from 1992-2003, good memories.
