Anyone else see the a/c s/n spray painted on the inside? Looks like 4-622??

From the China Lake Alumni website, this would be either 44-62222 or 44-62260, both Renton Block 70 planes. It says the fwd fuselage of 62222 is at Pima? Anyone have anymore info on these two or if other parts survived?

If I were to guess, it seems to me that the little bit of the next number might be a 6.

I remember when Doc had a similar doghouse donated by the Nimitz museum... they were able to recover many parts to go back to tailgunner configuration from the target tug modifications. Not sure if they ended up using the armour plate; that was heavy!

things like this always make me wonder - how much $$ is it really worth? Our museum would love to have it but lets say $2K to buy it, then go get it and then another $2-3K to restore it to basic condition - I guess it is all a matter of do I spend the $ here or there. Neat piece none the less.

A tough situation for small, cash-short museums historical societies, isn't it? Our Airbase Historical Society would love to have this artifact, and I would gladly restore it for display, but we need to spend every cent (and there aren't many cents) on building maintenance and upkeep. You really hate to see stuff slip away, but so it goes for small non-profits. I've been trying to find a 3350 or 1830 to clean up for static display along with a Martin 250 turret, but there simply isn't anything out there to acquire at a reasonable cost.

I'm just glad you folks are working hard to preserve the remaining structures and history at Wendover AAF. Hopefully we'll get out there for a visit this year.

Scott - I totally agree - hopefully this will go to a good happy home that will take care of it - I am jealous of whoever gets it - I'de love to sit in a restored tail turret and just think about how it must have felt to ride "backwards into battle" to borrow a title from Andy Dottie.

Great item, so I bid on it!! Hope to get it, restore it with guns and put it on the front lawn with a motion sensor so it will follow any one who trespasses. Maybe put a laser sight on it, military one of coarse. Just think of the fun you could have with it!! Oh what fun!!!

I'd be tempted to bid if I didnt need to have it shipped cross country.

I already have ideas in my head of restoring it, bringing it to airshows in the bed of a matching B-29 themed (silver) pick-up... (I dont own a truck)
