Speaking of Fantasy of Flight.....

I find myself with all day Friday to kill in Orlando. I plan to grab a car and head for Fantasy of Flight. I've never been there. Anything out of the way, off the beaten path or otherwise interesting to be on the look out for?

Just a few miles further West from FoF is the Sun-N-Fun Museum at Lakeland, they have a great collection (some of Kermit's birds there as well) But if you only have one day, you can probably spend the whole day at FoF.

In the opposite direction from FoF (East of Orlando) you have the Space Center and Valiant Air Command at Titusville

Make sure to wear plenty of sunblock. The weather looks like it will be a nice day.....not too hot or cold. That means it is tempting to soak up all the sun you can get.......it will GET you, so watch it! I'm camping with the Cub Scouts this weekend so it's sunblock AND bugspray!
Have a good visit. If you do run out of things to look at in FoF, the Sun-N-Fun Museum is 25 minutes away and a very nice collection as well on the edge of an active, GA, WW2 Bomber training base.

Have not been there for two years, but I got a more-than-decent lunch at their restaurant inside the museum and a nice view to the outside to boot. Makes it real easy to send the whole day there and its a nice place to rest up after taking one of their tours.

Compass Rose Restaurant is good food at reasonable prices. Service can be a little slow depending on the crowd...so time your meal to NOT interfere with Tours or flight time! Been there, done that!

I haven't been in a few years. The last time I was there, they were just breaking ground for the new hangar on the far side of the runway opposite the main facility.
Can anyone tell me what the new hangar is used for? Displays, maintenance, etc?

I am trying to remember if the new hangar was for maintenance or overflow storage. It is across the active runway, so not a place to just walk over to.

The last time I was there they were using it for storage and maintenance. The B-24 and the active aircraft were in there.

The new hangar that was built is used mostly for maintenance and storage of the B-24 . If you visit FOF there are tram tours to the maintenance hangar were you can see the TP-40,B-24,Grumman Duck,TBM and the PO-2. This friday from 3-5 P.M. we are having open cockpit day were, for a small up charge,you can sit in the B-25,P-51C and T-6.

Don't know. They were very busy on Friday and suspended the tram tours for the day. Very disappointing but understandable.
Did enjoy the rest of the museum, though. When I get home I'll see if I have any pix worth posting.
