Old Soldiers Never Die - Flight Suits and Helmets

In reference to G.I. Joe...... They always say that "Old soldiers never die, your momma threw them away".

Well I found these 3 ads in Famous Monsters of FilmLand #17 and #18 (which is about 1965 or so). To me the parachutes are worthless. But the pressure suit and the helmets (helmets especially) are not.

Anyone have an idea what they would be worth today? OK, fess up, who ordered one and let mommy toss it in the garbage when you quit playing with it?

The helmet is worth a few thousand today.

K-1 and K-2 flight helmets are worth around $900 thru to $6500 US depending on condition and fit out.

Most are missing the visor glass nowdays.

Actually, the helmet is not hard to find for under $1,000 bucks, in either sage green or white.
The faceplate is a different story. The military demilled the helmets by breaking the faceplates. If you read the ad and look at the images, there is no faceplate included. It would have a heating element and the O2 connector attached.
Those faceplates are scarce as hens teeth and are expensive to acquire. Even when they shot "The Right Stuff" they had to make a faceplate for Yeager's ride in the X-1A.

I found a complete one of those just tossed out in the disposal area. It had seen better days ...but I brought it home with me. I also got in a BUFF that was headed for the chopper and found that the pilots who flew it in just tossed everything in the cockpit and left it. Helmets manuals etc etc.
I have lots of photos from there...now if I could just get my old nikon cool scan III to work with windoes XP Pro....

with the Navy. We flew some of our vigilantes there to be turned in to beer cans on a couple of occasions. It was a really sad place. I had the run of the field when ever I was there. After serious searching I found only 1 WWII airframe...a very tired A-26. I have tons of photos like a field of B-58 hustlers, air frames intact canopies open to the elements, ejection pods lying all over....pretty sad stuff.....I have an old SCSI Nikon cool scan slid scanner but it doesn't want to work with windows XP I am going to fight with it a bit this weekend to see if I can make it work so I can digitize all this old stuff and 40 or so years of reno pics too!

Hi jet1, keep fighting with the scanner it will work with Xp. I`ve been using a coolscan3 on XP pro for ages.

ps. do you know that you have to turn the scanner on BEFORE you turn on the computer? It`s an old SCSI thing.

I have the cool scan software installed but it still doesn't see it ...

Jet1, yes I gave up on the Nikon software some time ago I use Hamrick Vuescan it`s excellent.
