I thought it was law that all staggerwings had to be red or yellow?
Shame about this one though, anybody know the story?

Yes it is a law written in section two, various shades of red allowed. Infractions will be delt with the lead post picture as proof.

that will buff right out...

Look on the Big Sky Stearman site you will see how much work they did to restore this aeroplane. They spent over two and half years to rebuild it. http://www.bigskystearman.com/projectstaggerwing.html

Some people shouldn't fly taildraggers. After 40 hours of dual in this a/c the pilot landed way to hot and was told to go around. Instead he panicked and put the brakes to the floor! John Pike restored this a/c and did a wonderful job. A huge investment of time on his part. BTW this a/c was imporyed from India where it flew for their national airline.

I've heard that the Staggerwing is difficult to fly. True?

Mudge the curious

If it is...I ain't buyin' one. :?

Not true!! Just VERY limited visibility on the ground. Oh yeah, That grinding sound you hear. Those aren't parts falling off the plane. That's just the landing gear going up or down.

+1.

I had a hand in restoring one a few years ago. Those bicycle chains driving that whole system never left me with a good feeling...

...though they seemed to have worked just fine in this case. Looks like the meatservo failed miserably though. WOW.
