Gulfhawk IV Oshkosh Incident 1993

Tue Mar 10, 2009 3:54 pm

Found these while digging thru some boxes of pics. Believe all injuries were minor. I watched it takeoff and go down behind the trees.

There was a P-40 that took off behind the F8F and was out climbing it. I thought to myself, "how odd is that" and then a few seconds later it all became clear.

My neighbour and his son, both pilots were the first on the scene. The pilot was unconcious but the believed he was ok when they helped him out.
They thought the same thing, strange that it wasn't climbing out faster. Bruce was saying not having been around warbirds he was leery of approaching the aircraft but they did it anyway.

That was the late Elmer Ward in that aircraft... it's now under rebuild with Nelson Ezell for TFC I believe.

Cheers,
Richard
