I took a step back while reading that news... and remembered all the BS the airlines were throwing around when they started claiming that GA was responsible for the overload and that user fees were the solution... you all remember that one, no ?

That was a big fat lie but they were still shouting it everywhere they could, even showing that stupid cartoon video in the airports !

Well, don't you think that this new TSA rule sounds a lot like another effort from the airlines from the back ?

I mean, if all those pesky little jets were subjected to the same hassle as the big boys, travelling by private jet would cease to be so easy and that might bring back all those fat corporate customers. And they would be able to charge these outrageous prices for the business class again !

I can easily see them behind the scene, pointing hard at TSA at the "huge security risk" all these uncontrolled GA aircraft pose  ! Shaking this piece of meat right in front of the hungry mouth of the TSA would exactly have the effect we are seeing now...

Just a disturbing thought...

At least this article did a good job of representing our concerns, rather than take the sensationalistic approach, "you mean they don't check those little planes!"

There's a lot of talk on various aviation lists about the TSA performing surprise inspections at small airports lately. Scary stuff for our future.

One of our local small fields here has had TSA spot checks "searches or interrogations" ...they put a note in their association news letter about it...telling folks that the TSA has the right to check so please cooperate.

Sounds like they are going to yank folks around whether the Large aircraft thing happens or not....

If you are a volunteer with any organization based on an airport make sure someone is on the scene with a proper credential to escort you. Especially at air carrier airports. The TSA and/or airport security are definitely increasing their activity and curiosity. On our last day at a project we were helping with there was a bit of a situation. Several volunteers were in the hangar (with a door opened to the apron) and there was no one with a credential to "escort" them. Airport security got pretty excited--I have no idea what a TSA representative would have done, but I don't think it would have been pleasant.
