Big Beautiful Doll

I am in the process of preparing the inaugural George Merz Memorial Lecture as part of the Friends of the RAAF Museum activities program. The subject of the lecture will be the complete history of the P51 Mustang. During my research one small question has defied every attempt at an answer. Does anyone know why John D Landers named virtually all of his fighters Big Beautiful Doll?.
