Houston March 21?

I have a trip that gets me into Hobby on Friday the 20th with a 30+ hour stay. Other than a trip to the cockpit Friday night, if it is still open, been a few years since I had an overnight at KHOU, I have nothing planned.
Will a crew be working on the B-17 on Saturday? Is it accessible? Anything else going on that I should make an attempt at? Have not looked at rental cars yet, but could.

We will be working on the B17 at Hangar WR-5 from about 0830-1730.
There is also the 1940 Air Terminal Museum two hangars down from us.
While it is primarily dedicated to Commercial Aviation it is a beautiful Art Deco Bldg. (restoration in progress) with lots of cool stuff in a growing museum.
Lone Star Flight Museum is open down on Galveston Island. Approximately a 45 minute one way drive from Hobby.
I am not in a position to come pick you up at the terminal due to time and work constraints but if you can...

As Spanner mentioned, the 1940 Air Terminal Museum is on the west side of Hobby. Saturday is the day they are having their monthly Wings and Wheels event. They typically get a few planes in and a few classic or antique cars. Of note this month is a special guest speaker that is an aviation and Smithsonian historian. I think it would be a good time killer and is a very short taxi ride from the terminal. I plan on being there Saturday with my GTO.

Cool. Glad to know that I will be able to do a few things to kill the day on Saturday. The company puts us up in the the Hilton there at Hobby. Soooo, the Cockpit is the only place I have really ever been to.
I will try to get by and see Spanner and the museum on Sat. Not sure if the Hotel van will drop me, but can't be more than a few bucks if I have to cab it. Thanks for the tips, and I will check again if anyone else has something to chime in on.
I am going to be back at HOU for another 30 plus layover over the 27th of the month. Am considering the trip down to LSFM to visit them again, but for the first time since their tragedy.

We heard they were going to run one of the engines, but it never happened - at least not by 5pm. It looked as if they were working on the tail all day. There was a good turnout at W&W. Good plane watching too. Hope you were able to stop by.

Sorry, just got home late yesterday, and first chance I have had to post. I had a great trip to Hobby. I did make it over to the Air Terminal Museum, but only for probably 10 minutes. Long enough to take pics of the birds there and run.
I can't say enough good things about the people who I met at the CAF wing. They took me in like I had belonged there a long time. I met a bunch of folks and was even coerced into helping attach the right wing flap.
I am back on Friday for a long overnight, and will be headed over to the hanger to help a little on the 17, if there is anything they will turn me loose on.
Tommy, I am told that the engine run was a number 4 priority for the day. It got so late in the day, that I think with members having to leave that they decided to wait till another day.

I thought I recognized you.
I was the wanker on the ladder admonishing everyone not to go flipping the flap lest they change my moniler to "Stubby" instead of SPANNER.
Glad you made it.
We did indeed resched. the engine crank up for #4 and the MO was on a scissors lift working on the top rudder bolt, when I finally had to dash off.
Come on back, we will treat you like family NEXT time too, and let you paint the Loo.
