Thu Mar 26, 2009 6:57 pm

A forgotten pilot of Pearl Harbor has died, John Thacker. He took off in a P-36 and with 3 fellow P-36 pilots engaged A6M Zeros.

God speed sir!

I thought that name looked familiar, I came across it gathering data to do a P-36 scramble, Dec 7th.

Wasn't there another Thacker flying one of the B-17s? (George? Ed?) After serving a tour in the PTO, he went to the ETO as a squadron commander in the 384th BG.

...There are 2 Thackers listed on 384th BG website.

One of those being the same Col. Robert E. Thacker that flew the P-82 "Betty Jo" non-stop from Hawaii to NYC in 1947.
