P-47D or M?

Sat Feb 19, 2005 8:16 pm

This is probably a dumb question that I should already know the answer to, but why is the Yanks Air Museum P-47 listed as a "P-47D" model in the warbird registry and a "P-47M" model on the Yanks webpage?

Thanks,
Mike

Its not a dumb question. The YAM has two P-47s. One is a P-47D that is under restoration somewhere and the P-47M is on display.

Since the aircraft is a YP-47M, the serial number probably reflects a production "D" fuselage incorporated in the prototypes.
