Thu Apr 30, 2009 4:51 pm

I saw on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's website that there will be a B-25 flyover during the national anthem. Great news!!!!

I will get the best pictures I can being that my seats are covered!

I'm glad your seat is coverd as that will keep it from being arrested. Now get down to the "Snake Pit" in turn one and get some good shots. I'm counting on you and will buy you a drink at the Whitefront after the race.

8) (this is a test for Indy people)

We had talked to those folks about having the B-24 "Ol' 927" do a flyover but it fell thru ?? I will still enjoy seeing the 2 B-25's fly over and watch the "Greatest Spectical in Racing"!! Other than Reno!!!

Scott,
I will do my best. Our seats are up about 20 rows in box E but my family also has about 10 tickets 3 or 4 rows off the wall in the same box so if I hang out down there I should be able to get them.
Are you going to the race?
I know being a sprint car guy you know all about the "Little" 500 in Anderson. That's where I will be Saturday night. If you are going to be out that way PM me. The beer's on me!

Mark

Looking forward to what you can get shots of. Having worked for many years at the Speedway, in the old garage area, before the new fancy shacks and during the days with Mario, Al, Sr., AJ, etc., I have trouble getting excited about spending time with all the "profilers" and corporate racers.

Much easier to sit at home and watch with a refreshing beverage in my hand.

Is the Whitefront still around? Was on 16th Street and had amazing photos on the wall of nearly every driver at the Speedway from Haroun on. It was a strip joint for a while as well, I seem to recall.

What B-25, or B-25's will it be?

Looks like "Special Delivery" and "Take Off Time" as long as they don't go US before then...you know how that goes!!

I talked to Larry Kelley yesterday who will be flying "Take Off Time" along with Tom Duffy the owner and Larry indicated that the 2 B-25's will be doing a total of 3 passes over the raceway right at the end of the National Anthem and at race start.

I'll check to see if Whitefront is still there. I know right at that corner there are still a bunch of gentlemans clubs there. I believe the old USAC offices are gone.
My Grandfather's cousin lives on 14th St. at Lynhurst. Her family used to own a little grocery store down there at the Speedway. Last name is Zink. I don't know if that rings a bell. My Grandfather and her used to laugh about seeing all the drivers come in and buy a loaf of bread and some bologna and take it back to the garages or the speedway hotel. No corporate caterers back then :D .
They also laugh about seeing drivers drive their cars to the track before qualification.
The 500 is a huge part of my family history. My Grandfather's first race was 1935. I think the only ones he missed were during the war years up until he stopped going in about 1998.
The "Little" 500 is my all time favorite though. My Uncle (Jerry Williams) raced there one time in 1969.
Ok, sorry for getting off the warbird track.

Mark P.
