This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Some on this forum know of Jerry Billings dispute with the location of wind turbines 900 meters off the end of the Billing family air strip.
Information can be found here:
http://www.jerrybilling.com/Wind%20Farm/Wind%20Farm.htm
The local news has been following this for the last 6 months here in southern Ontario.
On April 20th 2009 ( Jerry's 88th birthday ) Jerry got this anonymous letter.
Now their is no proof of who the letter writer is but IMO it would be from the ones who will lose the most if the wind turbine project were relocated or scraped all together, the land owners who are hosting the turbines. The land owners will recieve $50 000.00 per year to have the 5 turbines on their property.
One thing Jerry got a laugh at was the last quote about being billed for the lost Spitfires Jerry used during the war. I guess these people forget that without people like Jerry they would not be enjoying the freedoms they have.

You know, I am generally in favor of the rights of property owners to do things such as build buildings, etc. But if a neighbor has a pre-existing airfield that you will block, then you ought to go take a hike! Same would go for something near our ranch. If my putting something in would damage a neighbor's ability to use his property as he currently is doing, then I should be a good neighbor and back off.
That stinks...

Almost makes you want to set up a strafing mission.

I can only assume Billings has had to have some sort of permit to use the land as a runway, right? So the company screwed up, and the town screwed up. And he should sue the piss out of both.
Oh wait I can't say that in this libertarian dominated anti lawsuit site
Sort of sad the queen can't be arsed to protect one of her own. I can't help but wonder why Jerry even cares at 88. I mean, it's not like he can use the runway any more, right?

Kind of makes a person want to take the silver spoon out of the writers mouth and put it somewhere else.
Though, I think the writer has a point. He/She/It ought to go public and campaign the governments he mentioned to demand a refund for the equipment lost, or destroyed, by Mr. Billings.
It would be a noble quest that fellow green energy proponents would rally around.

Burns my Biscuits! It's just so tacky!
But thanks for the link... the Video of him practising without an announcer blathering on is great!

Jerry does still fly, but he is more interested in protecting the safety of the strip for his son Erik that flys and his Grandson Mitch who also flys the family Champ. Local pilots also use the strip on occasion.
Jerry's strip was registered 40+years ago.

Sounds to me like it's time for a fly-in at his strip.

I'd say it is right up there with the complaint by horrified surfers to the FFA about certain low flying Warbirds where one of the warbirds was viciously attacked said warbird, which I stongly believe that it was a suicide based on jealously in that the bird, saw that it was not a big Iron bird. These kind of people just gripe.me....opinion not posted for political correctness ans sensitivity, also where prohibited by law, and an undue durden on the Thought Police. Dear God in Heaven....what is happening to our Society?

Anyone who writes something of this type of poison and hasn't the balls to back it up with his/her name is simply a coward. The really sad part is they're probably proud of their miserable selves.

I would say that a fly-in at Jerry's place is exactly what you need. Notify all the press in advance and get some national governmental figures to attend as well.

Best advice of all!

All I can say, is if they had the balls to write that letter, they should have the balls to sign thier name at the bottom of it or keep thier opinion to themselves. If you want to voice an opinion part of the ground rules are accountability. The letter being anonymous totally voids merit in even reading it. My guess is it's someone with a monetary stake in wind farms trying to make the whole business unpleasant as possible.

sickening that someone would write that .
