Full scale carbon-fiber P-51 Mustang for sale

Tue May 12, 2009 2:00 pm

Is it appropriate to post a link to an eBay ad? I have no
connection with the sale whatsoever, just stumbled upon
it during my lunchtime surfing....

Thanks,

Seems like a heck of a deal. I'd yank the stinky turbine engine out and
put an Allison (or Merlin) in it, put a stock windscreen/canopy on it, fix
the front end of the cowling & put a stock spinner on it and call it good! :D

That's Murdo Cameron's old bird.

He's got all the parts built up for, and been threatening for years, to make a composite P-51 racer with clipped wings and an Allison engine. He's got the engine parts, and he has the mold that they used to make the racing canopy on the Griffon-powered Precious Metal. Danny Mortenson was supposed to be heading the project, but...like many people who have big dreams they get easily sidetracked...

...and now Murdo is into making a composite full-scale replica of the Miss Spokane hydroplane.

As far as the canopy on the one in the ad, he said he put that style (which is molded directly off of a Mustang canopy, but one piece and opens side-style like a Long-EZ) because he didn't like the wind noise on the stock model.

I guess if it's your bird....you can do what you want, how you want it.

Dude- you're thinking too much... Means he will take 175k, if it is the onlybid! Think he'd take a check???

You might want to ask them how many times they have retracted the landing gear in flight and the last time it actually flew... If you were mean you could ask for details on the lawsuits over ownership.

I heard that the lawsuits were settled on it. The ownership (or whatever) thign was supposed to have been the reason that it disappeared from sight after it was at Oshkosh one year, quite a few years ago.

I know it was in Las Vegas last time I saw it for sale. I always love the EBay auctions that say "I got this thing and I have no use for it". I can see that on a low value item, but when you are looking at a $100k airplane, its hard to swallow that one.

Personally, I'd want to see it fly some more before I got into it.......

Wasn't bad-mouthing the airplane, just day-dreaming out-loud
on what I'd do with it....

I just read the lawsuit docket(s) on the ownership thing
during my lunch hour (what a mess...).

Were there more than one of these built? I recall seeing one drop by the CAF show at Holman Field in St Paul a number of years ago. It sure looked good, but sounded strange. If memory servers it was white... I could have sworn I had a photo but I haven't been able to dig it up.
