Anybody in the mood to hear some Allisons's ? (P-40's)

Sun May 31, 2009 3:27 pm

I have finally got around to putting together my video production of the P-40 action at the Geneseo gathering last July (2008).

Part 1

Part 2

This part features the late Bob Baranaskas P-40 being flown not only by himself, but by Dale Snodgrass doing the honors for the Heritage Flight and some acro. Bob and his P-40 will be sorely missed this year.

Hope you all enjoy and hope to meet up with all the fellow Wix'ers this year at Gennie!

Those were really great! I was wondering what type camera you have as I am seriously thinking about getting a vid cam but I want one that does good prop blurr like your's, especially the taxi shots!, nice :D
I assume its a type of camera that you can adjust shutter speed?
Is that a slow shutter speed you were using, thanks again.

Steve,

My camera is a Sony DCR-PC110 MiniDV. I've had it since 2001 and back then it was top of the line with the 1MP (wow!) CMOS sensor. I paid $1500 for it then. Now in that time since the cameras went to 3 CMOS and 3MP and now of course we are in HiDef. That is next for me and I am eyeing a Canon, but may stick with Sony.

Yes it is Shutter Speed. I just use the standard shooting mode and stay away from any of the hi-speed or 'sports' modes which cause that 'funky' prop action. I also enable the 'Steady Shot' feature (which is a MUST) and that further adjusts shutter speed and effects prop blur. I've actually noticed if the lighting is right, after take off when pilots adjust the power/rpm settings, I have seen it in the video. (ie on a Corsair I can see the blurred 3 blades after the power reduction).

I'm seriously going to try and rent the next camera I want before I buy it if that is all possible. They are a big investment and I want to make sure I'm happy with it, and I can get the performance I want. Reviews only can take you so far and I think its easier to get an opinion for shooting aerial subjects when choosing a DSLR.
