At any rate, the book Mustang At War by Roger Freeman has that picture with the captioning that the plane was from the 22nd Tac. Recon. Sqn. at Bad Abling, Germany in full view of the POW compound in the background. Apparently the pilot caught the BF-109 wreck with his right wingtip and ended up in the pictured cartwheel. The book says the pilot survived with a few minor cuts and bruises! I imagine he was pretty grateful.

Any chance they decided to remove the "large wrecked object" from the edge of the runway after that? 
I'm sure the next guy trying to take off really had a job on his hands trying to maneuver around TWO wrecked hulks.

how are there p.o.w.'s?? granted my vision isn't great, but how is that concluded?? who ever shot the pic had perfect timing with clicking the shutter!!

Date was 8th May 1945 and it was a F-6K-10-NT of the 22nd TRS , serial 44-12470 - damage was cat. 4 due to ground loop - the a/c was junked.
