Does everyone like having this place to talk about warbirds?

Thu Jun 11, 2009 11:11 pm

I do. It's a great site for info, when we can actually get some in and around the bullstuffing that seems to be more and more prominent.

Let's face a few facts, shall we?

1) Scott's talked publicly about closing this puppy down due to the headaches it entails.
We've all seen it. We know how he's feeling. He makes no secret of it. Yet there are some folks who seem unconcerned. Instead, they perform the internet equivalent of p1ssing in the punch, breaking the stereo and telling his wife she has a f@t @ss. (Disclaimer: I don't even know if he's married.) In short, they're terrible guests.

2) There are posters who used to be here who aren't.
It's fair to assume that it's due to the ridiculousness of some of the above. In some cases it certainly isn't, but I'd bet we're running a good 60/40.

3) We have now reached the point where we can drive off moderators.
Imagine someone not wanting to police a bunch of horsehockey when they could be doing anything less stress-causing! THe nerve of such selfish individuals!

JDK, you're a good one, BTW. You explain your reasoning, and I've NEVER seen you pull a 'BECAUSE I HAVE POWER! line on anyone. I respect your efforts.

4) Apparently, some of you still think you can 'win' the internet.
Some of us have gone past the point of the civility that we would give any stranger on the street. Some here have said things to each other online that you would NEVER say in person. I don't care how much you disagree with someone...you can do so in a civil fashion. Differing opinions do NOT guarantee that the other guy is less intelligent, valuable, knowledgable, nor experienced....

5)Consider this, if you will.
If you've ever said 'I like the guy(anyone at all) in real life, but he's a real jerk around here' then please take a moment to consider whether it's really the other guy that's a jerk around here...or at least if he's not the only jerk around here.

6) Everyone here, and I very definitely mean EVERYONE, is deserving of your respect.
We have pilots, both veterans and non-veterans, we have aircraft maintenance, we have restorers, we have fans, and we have individuals from every walk of life. In short, we have people here who, in the meat world, depend on each other. We here have a common interest, yet more than a few act like we're the smartest rooster on the walk.

It's now in your hands, folks. If we keep pooping on the carpet, Scott's gonna lock the doors. Let's not send the guy off hunting for the key, if it's not too much trouble.[/i]

This is an excellent site filled with some great and interesting stuff...

Let's not give in to cyber terrorism by a few..

Just remember that I enjoy warbirds because I can't handle drugs, alcohol, women or reality!

hear, hear.......great post & o so true.

I for one, stay away as far as I can from any "voice your political voice" or be my "schrink for a day" type of dicussions & try to leave at just that: Warbirds, my major passion.

Look at it at in a different way........

If Scott shut it down, some other place would pop up. Before WIX, there was a chat board or whatever they were called on AOL. I met up with Tim Savage there as well as VLADO (I'm sure I spelled that one wrong, sorry)......

Its like a free market, there is something that will come in to fill the void.

So is that a reason not to adopt fotobass's issues head on and deal with the crap attitudes here? just let WIX got to pot and move onto another site until the crap seeps into there as well?

A lot of the recent crap relates to people not accepting the umpires decision, perhaps if they're not happy here they should consider moving on?

Excellent post.

I was amazed that the Aussie angle was brought up. By a guy who's made 63 posts ! I believe he just might be a plant sent from the NMUSAF who's mission is to disrupt what goes on here !

There's been a lot of positive info shared here and I can tell you that WIX had a very direct impact on the CF F-4 returning to flight status.

totally agree.., the anonymity of the internet can bring out the worst in people.

Good group of people here. Made a lot more friends than enemies over the years.

Would hate to see it go away!

fotobass...you get my vote to replace JDK as a moderator :drink3:

For what it is worth (very little) my only bit of advice/suggestion would be to try and keep in mind that there are those of us here who do not know it all about Warbirds...hence the title of Warbird Information Exchange. I was brought up to understand that the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Having met numerous veterans of WWII as well as several owner/operators at various events across the country, the majority are so willing to talk about their experiences in a friendly manner. Having said that, I have also had the displeasure of meeting a couple of owner/operators who did not have the time of day for an uneducated/unwashed sort like me. In the real world as well as here on WIX.

Personally, I love to share what little knowledge I have on my favorite subject: Warbirds. That goes as well to my profession of choice in computerized machining. Having done that for more than 20 years, I enjoy passing on my knowledge to the younger fellas just getting into the machining world. I know that I should not judge others on how I treat people, but when at an Airsho and I approach an owner/operator to just chit-chat and they turn their back or put their nose in the air...yikes!

So I guess I will fade back into the woodwork. I had not bothered posting here or asking any "stupid" questions for fear of being jumped for quite a while. It is nice to come out into the sunlight for a spell and I sincerely hope that WIX does not go away but rather becomes stronger through the learning experiences of these past couple of months.
