I am very much more a B-17 & B-29 guy when it comes to bombers, but in 45 years of reading I don't recall ever seeing this! I just stumbled upon it in ebay. A B-24 with a jet nozzle in the tail....
Maybe its an age/memory thing.

So is that the ex-Lackland AFB B-24M that is now in the American Air Musem at Duxford, painted as "Dugan"?

Imagine being the pilot of an FW-190 or Me-109 flying up behind THAT!

"Himmel! AAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!! Break AVAY!!!" and proceeding to roll the wings off the plane trying to get away from the B.F. Gun...

Looks like that aircraft must have been around a while, as the E-bay photo shows it in late war markings, and the photo Dan K found it has USAF markings.

Okay...now that's just wierd.
I think this is what happens when you have surplus aircraft all over the place, and a bunch of engineers going 'what can I do with that?'
