Great airshow this year, hoping to go back next year. Lots of warbirds in the air and on the ground. Here are some pics:

GREAT pictures, Matt.

I think that Indy COULD have a been a Great Warbird show, but the cancellation of planned airplanes during the last week or two before the show really hurt in my opinion. The loss of the F-100F, MiG-17, T-33, AD Skyraider, C-1A Trader, A-26 Invader and F-86F left a big hole in the warbird lineup.

I hope they have better luck next year.

From what ive heard, it should be. And they are planning on going back to august again so they dont compete with geneseo.

There's at least one other like it, same scheme. I don't know what squadron it depicts, but I think it's Tom Woods' Mustang.

Nice picture of the Harpoon with crew chief PJ sticking out of the top.

Tom Wood has had that color since I first saw it in 1972/73.

You mean....

"HeII It's Ghastly"

I know, i know.., it is HIS plane, he should be able to do what he wants.., but GOOD GRIEF.. he had some paint left over from his Hot Rod?

In 1972/73, most Mustangs had stripes running down the sides -nose to tail- with pastel colors overall. He was kinda of a renegade/rebel back then to be puttin' stars/bars back on. I think there are a few pix of Tom back then in plaid pants too! (Sounds of a distant shrill scream!)

That plaid pants pic is still on the hangar wall today! 8) Stylin' man, Tom is!

I used to hate the Mustang's paint, but being around it more makes me realise, it's actually not that bad. And as I always say... It's better than MY Mustang!

actually in your photos it does not look bad at all.., other than not being historically accurate.., if that was his intent..,or not?

Looks good in your photos and as was stated earlier.., it looks better than mine as well.., much LARGER scale his is!

Paint scheme is based on 55FG. There are a couple others out there in this scheme, one representing Ed Giller's "Millie G" the best known a/c of this group. Yanks Air Museum has another. The HI-G codes are not authentic to any sqn. The other birds have more plausible shades of green. In the 1960s it was thought that the color might have been red, and Revell even issued a model in that color scheme.

Color issues aside, did any Mustangs wear those markings?

Looks like a 'composition' bird. The 'Stang' on the tail looks alot like this:

http://www.506thfightergroup.org/462ndf ... uadron.asp

But then again, on their site: http://www.55th.org/

Go to the 'images' icon and scroll down to 55th FG Profiles GIF and click on that.,. they are at the bottom.., if this is the green he was going for.,. then he could not hit water if he fell out of a boat!!!!

The 'Stang' is on a couple of their birds as well.., so maybe the 506th 'borrowed' from the 55th?
