Australian P-40 suffers gear failure

Sun Aug 16, 2009 7:00 pm

.
Mareeba Warbird's P-40N-5 42-104977 (in Australia), a veteran of the 49th fighter group in PNG suffered a gear failure on landing, the pilot and passenger were uninjured.

Damage to the prop and cowl is visable in photographs, but wings and tailplane appear undamaged so hopefully the aircraft is repairable.

That is really sad news. I hope she's back on her feet and in the air again sooner, rather than later.

Mark, thank you for bring this story to our attention.

Cheers,

David

Good that no one was injured, bad for the plane, nothing that a big bucket of $$$$$$s won't fix. Lot more that just a dataplate to work from there! Gotta be heart breaking for the team that put her together though.

that aircraft is not near the runway. Bit windy on the day I'm told..

Sad to see it bent, but she's not broke so a bit of tin bashing etc etc etc etc should see he airborne again..
