Museum broken in to 9-1-09 many items were stolen-StocktonCA

Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:58 pm

Our museum the Stockton Field Aviation Museum was broken into last night and several things were stolen.

Four machine guns were taken all were dummy or inoperative.

Three were ANM2 .30 caliber aircraft machine guns. One was an aluminum cast replica the other two were WWII guns with torch cuts down the middle.

The 50 cal ANM2 that was stolen was a TNW semi automatic gun with the bolt removed. The bolt is special to this gun so a regular 50 cal bolt cannot be installed to make the gun operable. The gun was set up as a ground gun or heavy barrel with a rare early slotted Colt barrel support. It also had original style Colt manufacturers markings on the forward right side in addition to the TNW logo further to the rear.

Several ammo cans with 50 cal belted ammo were also taken with dummy and empty belted ammo as well as individual rounds.

We also lost three Gateway computers and about 6 Bose aviation headsets in their cases.

If you have any information, of course, please let us or the San Joaquin County Sheriff's department know (209 468 4400). Our contact info is below.

I would also appreciate you all spreading the word. Hopefully we can get the guns back as they are rare and we cannot afford to replace them.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Taigh

Maybe you'll get lucky and they will try to pass them off to another museum and they can hold 'em until the police arrive! We'll keep an eye out - scum low lifers.

That sucks, Taigh. Maybe if you could post some pictures of the items that got stolen here, the word could get out easier. You know the aviation community is very, very small. If those A-holes try to sell that stuff on Ebay, we all can keep a look out for it.

Also, you and/or the Police should keep a look out at all the local pawn shops.

At least no airplanes were damaged, if that's a small consolation! :(

hope they get caught!

You have our sympathies, Taigh -- nobody here enjoys hearing about bad things happening to good people.

But we've all encountered those who just can't keep their paws off the stuff of others. I hope all your items are recovered with a minimum of headaches for you.

Not to worry, Nate. I bit someone on another thread and decided to have myself quarantined...nothing a little rum and sunshine won't cure. 8)

Sorry to hear about this Taigh.
I hope they catch the B__stards!

Any chance they can get ATF in and make it a Federal Offense?

Yeah three agents from the ATF were here this morning and it looks like it is going right up the chain which is great. Since it is on an airport the FBI will also be coming in from what I am told. I hope they get the SOB's

There are too many scumbags in the US

Taigh definitely post pics of the stolen items so we can all keep our eyes open for people trying to sell them off to other groups.

Bad Idea

Sorry to hear about that Taigh, I always worry about that happening at our museum. So far, we have been lucky and only the main office was broken into a few years ago. One of the idiots cut himself on the broken glass of the window as they came in so his DNA eventually showed up in the system. Since the break in was a probation violation, he will be banging out license plates for quite some time.

The person or persons who got into your place will likely get caught but let's just hope its soon so you can recover your guns and anything else they took. I would expect to find out that whoever they are, they have been in your hangar before or they have friends who told them about it. These idiots are going to find out that the FBI and BATF have teeth and when they bite, it hurts.

Maybe as part of their eventual plea agreement they can cut their time short by volunteering to become human bombs for the next fantasy bomber camp! Of course they will be provided with parachutes, vintage WWII chutes would be nice.
