B-17 at Grissom AFB, need info.

Sat Sep 26, 2009 4:31 am

I am gearing up to help Chris with the B-17 at Grissom. Does anyone know if there is a current Boeing Structural Repair Manual (SRM), or all repairs to be made in accordance with the 43.13? While we have no intentions of flying the aircraft, we would like to do all of our work the right way. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Rob

The SRM along with all the drawings are available from the Smithsonian. If you're interested in a DVD version check with B17project.com.

Sounds awesome, we will have to check it out. We are really hoping to turn this B-17 into a great display, and help in make it more complete, even going to give a shot at getting her indoors.

If anyone has old pictures of her throughout the years, we would love to see them as well. No pics are too boring. We want to see them all.

Looks like she was rigged as a drone during atomic testing, so looking through pics in that arena. Unfortunately, the few pics of these I have found, the serials are unreadable.

There are no surviving QB-17s (Drones). The B-17 at Grissom I believe was a DB-17 (Director aircraft).

Sorry, yes, director not drone.....reading too much, not thinking enough while typing! Too many hours in front of PC!!!
