Wings of Eagles Elmira NY pics

Two weeks ago I made a trip to Harris Hill and to Elmira/Corning Regional airport where the Wings of Eagles(former NWM) is based. I didn't go inside but saw they moved some planes out around the parking lot area. They must have just done this recently has I was there a month earlier and these planes were still out on the ramp.

Hey Nathan,
Very nice. We may stop in there next Saturday on our way down to Virginia. If we can head out early enough I was hoping to make a fast stop into Geneseo to say hello. We are stopping at Hanover, PA for the night and it is 9.5 hours from home so not to much time to stop and take pics.

Dang I don't think I'll be able to hook up with you there Eric. 
I work untill 1pm Saturday then after work I got to head down to my local airport to help set up for the fly-in breakfast that will be the day after(Sunday the 11th). If you would like to stay the night in Towanda I got a place you could stay then you could catch the fly-in breakfast and see if any of the airplanes I organized comes! 
Geneseo is suppost to be there with atlest the C-45!

Were they just moving them around for some work in the hangar? The A-26 is usually inside.

All the aircraft pictured have been outside for some time now. The A-7 and OV-1 have been out by the parking lot for awhile. The B-57 and A-26 have been on the ramp outside for the past few years. They just moved those out by the parking lot within the last month. No idea as to why. I write emails to the museum every so often with questions but I never get any replies!

Hopefully that A-26 is outside only temporarily, she looks nice, but those NY Winters can be rough on AC.Sitting on grass, that is a no no for long term too. She doesn't look tied down either. Just how much of a wind gust would it take to do nasty things? I mean, they were built to fly! Even A-7s can fly!! The A-7 at the Don Garlits Drag racing museum took a flight even though mounted to a pylon. Wind storm, perhaps a small tornado ripped it loose and away it went. The Navy wanted to scrap it but Garlits insisted on keeping, repairing and it went back on display!

She's been outside for the past two or so years. A couple years ago I wrote to the museum suggesting some ideas to help boost the museum. One idea was having a model show. Got a reply saying sure you do it!

If thats not enough: There is a private owner that just got his Mig 17 flying there. Randy Ball test flew it a few weeks ago. The owner said it was the only flying Mig 17 left!

I know vintage aircraft owner do, and should have bragging rights, but having the facts accurate would be nice. I know, there's a first for everything!! Accuracy in facts!! HAH! Now there's a moving target! Better tell Red Bull to check the paperwork on theirs, perhaps the Ruskies pulled a fast one and they just have a dolled up Cessna!

The most disturbing fact is that they have a decent amount of hangar space to keep at least the A-26 and B-57 inside. When I visited years ago both of these aircraft were indoors and that was when they still had the PBY and B-17! Doesn't make any sense to me since since they've sold off the B-17, PBY and Twin Beech and all of those are decent sized aircraft, the place should be empty inside!

Some museum's can make a lot of money by having dinners and meetings in their museum's. It's money that is hard to pass up in these economic times. Could be that the aircraft are outside because they need the floor space for tables and chairs.
NEAM has a large area in their Military Hangar that they keep open for such events. They can fit between 300-400 people depending on the need. Unfortunately, the A-10, F-4 and Cobra are usually regulated to out side display because of this.

Space...Schmace...What could be "cooler" (more cool?) than having dinner under the wing of an A-26 or a B-24 or the like.
Mudge the aesthete
