Dear Gary,
I never knew the pleasure of meeting you, but I sure got to know your passion regarding our shared passion...warbirds! Your transformation of Ole 927 was amazing!...as was your work on Fifi...as was all your work on warbirds over the years.
Sometimes, this life seems to be like a card game. Some people are dealt a great hand, and some are dealt a lesser hand. Some of us are meant to bear the weight of the world on our shoulders...often more than we can carry. And more often than not, we refuse to see how valuable we are and how many lives we touch despite ourselves.
I hope that you have found peace and all that this Earth could not offer. Maybe that's why you loved flying and warbirds so much...as the only REAL warbirds have round engines, right? Not only did they provide that amazing and nostalgice view, but they flew with that great song note...
Safe flying, Gary Austin, as many others have said, and I hope to join you some day beyond the "surly bonds of earth."
