Surviving Fairey Swordfish wrecks?

Sun Apr 03, 2005 7:31 am

Can someone give information about surviving Swordfish wrecks in the world? Are there any wrecks for sale at this moment?

Any info is welcome. Also feel free to PM me or just send me an e-mail!

Thanks,

swordfish carcasses

i think there are a couple of string bag carcasses in canada. privately owned. actually i think there were quite a few, at least 4, & 1 flyer was made from parts concerning the previous mentioned. saw some stuff on the type & canadian location in air classics a few years ago. the restoration was a labor of love that took 15 years, & it was a 1st class job!! contact challenge publications for the issue, or we have a number of canadian wixers who can possibly pin point the location of the parts. i know it's a vague lead, but a starting point. good luck, tom

Bob Spence is the canadian with the airworthy Stringbag... he was working from the remains of at least three airframes bought at the Ernie Simmons auction back in the seventies. He recently parted with the substantial remains of one of the leftover airframes... it went to a Maltese aviation museum. I believe he still has the remains of a further airframe... maybe you could enquire with him about this one. Not sure of his contact information, but I am sure someone here can point you in the right direction. Best of luck!
