I think thats because he's closer to the photo ship, and that there is a greater chance of running into it than the island?

Ahhh sweet sweet Avengers. Still living for the day I see a TBF fly. Not knocking the TBM-3 at all but apart from working on our Museum's TBF-1 I've always thought the nose profile was much nicer looking on the early models.

Ever used for a mission? Only for ferry flights?

What carrier/base are the planes in the third photo from? The Reserve band on the Hellcat and the V tail codes make me think NAS Glenview, but I'm not sure.
