Women and Warbirds Calendar!

Fri Dec 11, 2009 4:35 pm

Here is your chance to support a Women in Aviation chapter in Southeastern Michigan.

We have created a calendar that features some of our members with WWII era war birds. Proceeds from the sale of this calendar will help us promote our support to the community, by hosting aviation related events, educational learning opportunities, and providing scholarships. Women in Aviation International is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Hey thanks for the welcome! Here is a quick over view about us:

The Yankee Ladies established in November of 2008. We are the southeast Michigan chapter of Women in Aviation, International. We are a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization (status pending) that is dedicated to providing educational, scholarship, networking, and mentoring opportunities to the community. We also provide a wide variety of social activities for women and men who are interested in aviation.

Our Chapter meets on the second Monday of the month for our monthly membership meetings at Willow Run Airport. We chose Willow Run Airport as our main site because of the Yankee Air Museum. We learned of the mission of the Museum to preserve our local and cultural history and to tell the Home Front story of World War II. Yankee Air Museum is based at
Willow Run Airport. The airport is significant to our group because of the role it played during World War II. Over 8,000 B-24 Liberators were built at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during WWII and many of these planes were built by the women who worked there. “Rosie the Riveter,” has a special focus and place in our heart as she is our unofficial chapter motto, “WE CAN DO IT!” We are inspired by these women, and their history is at the core of our chapter. We do a variety of activities
during the year including educational events, conferences, social networking, charity work, fund-raising, and of course we fly every chance we get! We have a wide range of members from 18-70, both men and women, consisting of aviation and education professionals, aviation enthusiasts, military personnel, retirees and students.

Also we go allow men to join, and we encourage it! We actually have quite a few male members in our chapter. One of our main goals in selling this calendar is to generate money to provide some scholarships here locally. Being in Michigan right now, any kind of scholarship money we can provide would help.

My name is Lindsay and if you have any other questions feel free to send me a message! I personally looove war birds! ;-)

I'll have to pick one of these up! My wife won't mind, she's also a big fan of warbirds, especially the Yankee Lady. She's also a big fan of anything having to do with "Rosies."

Awesome Steve, Thanks! Yeah our calendar is very tastefully done, and very wife friendly ;-). Our chapter is based at Willow Run Airport in Belleville Michigan, and this is where Rosie the Riveter began! My grandmother worked in the bomber plant there so it holds a special place in my heart. I even dress up as Rosie for a lot of our events!

Ah women and warbirds - my two favorite subjects! Hahaha!

Seriously, that's a pretty awesome calendar. I think it's fantastic that you gals are not letting the public forget the huge role that women contributed towards the war effort. It took a total team of people to win W.W.II, and women were a large part of that!

I know it's probably very un-feminine to like warbirds, but I really wish more women would get involved in all aspects of it. From flying, to maintaining, organizing, managing, etc. The warbird movement needs all the help it can muster right now with all of the threats it is facing.

Keep up the great work! :D

Thanks warbird1! That's one of the things that is great about our calendar, all the girls in there are in aviation and appreciate warbirds. :-)

Wow, that's fantastic! Would any of them happen to be single? That sounds like future wife material! It's not easy, you know, to find women who are sympathetic to my addiction! Hehehe! :D

I mentioned the project to my wife, and SHE wants to get the calendar for herself! :D

Of course, for our first Christmas together I got her a Rosie the Rivetter doll, complete with lunchbox, welding mask, and gloves!

Yep, I ordered one the instant I got the general drift of it. As was mentioned, we're talkin' about two of my favorite things.... But professional big-boobied-fabulous-babe models is hardly the type of lady I admire. "Real women" are. So good for y'all, I wish all the best for your endeavors, and here's a friendly BUMP back up to the top. Cheers! :santa:
